The movie Brave is about Merida, the adventurous daughter of the Scottish King Fergus and his wife Queen Elinor. She is a free-spirited young woman and a skilled archer who is endlessly frustrated by her mother, and her attempts to teach her how to be a proper princess. Merida wishes to find her own path in life and when she defies an age-old tradition of an arranged marriage, her parents and the Highland lords of the kingdom are enraged. In an attempt to change her fate, Merida turns to a witch who gives her a spelled pastry, which turns her mother into a bear. Merida and her mother must put aside their differences and come together to save the Queen, before she is cursed to remain a bear forever.
The film is full of important religious themes, such as fate and destiny, redemption and repentance, and above all else, the importance of love, forgiveness, and family.
